Do you think it's healthy to lose 15 pounds in two months?

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008
help change your body

If I plan to lose 15 pounds in two months, would that be too much? Is it unhealthy? If you lose weight really fast, I heard you eventuallygain just as much or more. So do you think 15 pounds in two months like 2 pounds a week would have a negative effect on my body?

Yes, it's healthy…about 2 lbs a week is the best way to lose weight & keep it off. Eat 5-6 small meals…it keeps your metabolism going.

To help you lose weight…take your weight, divide in 1/2…& that's how many ounces of water you should drink/day.

Stick to lean protein; veggies; some fruit; whole grains, healthy oils (extra virgin olive oil; canola oil, sunflower oil), eat soy cheese, lowfat yogurt, etc.

Avoid refined/ processed foods, cheese, whole milk, carbonated drinks, regular & DIET.

Take good multi-vitamin/mineral. Omega3 essential fatty acids 3000mg with food. Drink green tea EXTRACT in hoy or cold water with meals. Both help in losing weight.

No negative effects.

Best of luck.

How can I lose 15 pounds by Christmas?

Monday, October 20th, 2008

I would like to lose 15 pounds by Christmas without exercising my tail off. I have a hard time committing to exercise, I work full time and have two children and it seems when I do get started, I get interrupted. Every since I was put on an anti-depressant, I have been packing it on, going off the pills is not an option. However, I can control what I eat. I already drink 8 glasses of water a day. I try eating healthy, but I am still gaining. Anyone know how to help me shed these pounds?

sorry bout the anti depressant thing, because it could be the kicker, but with the schedule you are on and small children, my dear lord….hey only thing i can offer is what worked for me..4 years ago in November of 2002, took about 6 months-8 months tops, lost 75 pounds…before I really started to excercise. Always a battle and I can add 10 lbs in a heart beat when I revert back to my bad habits. The water thing, lately I have been reading it is a myth…but don't stop if you are a water drinker. If you eat late, after 6 or 7 in the evening….quit it right now!!!!!! Don't eat late, if you have an urge after those hourse, go drink that water or put the food in your mouth, chew it up and spit it out. Stop cleaning your plate, each and every time…leave something on there. If your drinking sodas, cut back way back or cut them out completely. I found diet mt dew. usually hate diet drinks but this one doesn't taste funny..not really..especially when cold and has the caffeine I need to keep some energy but none of the calories. Best advice, review your habits..you say you try to eat healthy, but everyone's version of healthy is different. You could always try the thryoid approach, but usually it is just another crutch people take when they don't want to admit..it is them that is causing the weight problem. All I know, it worked for me. Was hard at first and I went to bed hungry a few times. Once I got up in the AM now, different story. I ate all the time. Not junk food completely, but not a health nut either. Just no more super size, no more cleaning your plate, smaller portions, try to move around…two kids…you shouldn't have a problem there. Don't eat after 7, no matter what. Try it, and once you start, you eat during the day..at work or home…eat smart to, but don't completely deprive yourself either it only makes temptations stronger….but by the end of the day…leaving work..your full and you don't need food for the rest of the day.

All I can say is I lost 75 lbs trying this, and people at work would say…how can you be loosing weight I see you eating all the time. I did also eat a lot of rotissery meat cooking…very healthy.

Try it, it might work. The anti-depressant will add weight, but only as much as you allow. Been there, prozac, zoloft, alot of them. Off of them for several years now. Friend of mine suggested St Johns Wart as an herbal supplement…depends on why you are taking the anti-depressant. Good luck sweetie. It is a tough time of year, but you know what I started on Thanksgiving day of 2002, and I will never go back. Woman always carry about 10 lbs extra water weight..especially bout every 28 days…if your a late eater and your portions are too big and you know it…try it..what you got to loose but weight.

Will my being on the birth control pill inhibit my ability to lose 15 pounds?

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

I've heard from random sources that the birth control can prevent women from losing weight, and may actually contribute to weight GAIN. Is this true? It is my goal to lose 15 pounds, and for medical reasons, I need to be on the pill. Will being on the pill (Alesse, if it matters) ABSOLUTELY prohibit weight loss? Are there any ways around this?

No, being on the pill won't "ABSOLUTELY prohibit" weight loss, but it COULD make losing weight significantly more difficult than it would otherwise be for you. You've heard correctly that the pill can make some women gain weight…SOME women, not all. Whether a woman gains weight on the pill (or in your case, has trouble losing weight), really depends on her body chemistry and how she reacts to the pill.

If the pill Alesse does start to make you gain weight, the way around this would be to start trying other forms of the pill. If one form of pill makes you gain weight, you might find that you do just fine with another pill. Experimentation is the key.

What is a fast way to lose 15 pounds?

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

I'm 5'3" and 105 pounds so I really want to lose 15 pounds before January 27th. How can I do that?

Well i know i'm 5'7" at 120lbs and i've been told i need to gain weight and i think they are CRAZY! I used to weight 105 and i could not do anything about that i would eat and eat and nothing, but i'm very happy now with my weight. I would think with your hight you should be too. If you feel a little chubby around the mid section, i would just suggest doing sit ups and go from there. I would think your body right now is perfect and to lose 15lbs would be WAY too much, but being in your situation i can see where your coming from. If people are saying your too thin or skinny and you dont think so, just watch what you eat. You have to make your self happy but you also dont want to get a eating disorder.. you know!
good luck, and have a heathy year!

Would it be possible to lose 15 pounds in six weeks if I do cycling for an hour a day?

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

Would it be possible to lose 15 pounds in six weeks if I do cycling for an hour a day?
30 minutes of working up the upper body and watching what I eat?
My upper body is smaller than my lower body. I have thick thighs and I would like for them to be a bit slimmer.
The good thing is that I already have muscles in both my upper body and my legs but I am a bit bulky in my legs and I would like to be slimmer.

I'm a 20 years old female and I just want to get in shape and stay healthy.

Yes it is….

Okay…Here we go!

This is my theory and this is what works for me. Everyone is different so it may need to be adjusted to your own personal needs.

Energy In/Energy Out

Food Intake: 1,200 Per Day

One Pound equals 3,500 Calories

To loose one pound per day, You need to burn your food intake plus your one pound of fat

1,200 (intake) + 3,500 (Outtake) = 4,700 Calories Burn

You must burn at least 4,700 Calories everyday to loose one pound atleast. It is very easy to go up and beyond 4,700 calories each day.

Best way to do this is to track your progress on a calorie counter monitor watch. If you do it by the numbers you can loose the weight. It is just a matter of changing the way you think about weight loss.

Once you start wearing your calorie counter you can see the numbers increase and you fill find yourself doing extra things in your day, like tapping your foot while witing at the light in your car, chewing gum, singing outloud and so on ontop of your workout routines. You begin to see that everything you do in your day contributes to the overall numbers needed to loose that pound.

I myself have done this recently. Two weeks later, I lost one pant size and 10 pounds.

I personally burn 1,000 calories by Walking in my community for one hour in the morning and I also burn 1,000 calories by simply playing xbox while playing tetrus. I get so involved in playing xbox that I completely forget I am pedaling or working out. Think about it..How many hours have you spent playing video games..why not burn calories while you are doing it.

Water Intake/Less Storage

Most people do not get enough water in their system. Water is your body's principal chemical component, comprising, on average, 60 percent of your weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. To determine if you are getting enough water use this simple formula.. Take your weight, for example 150 pounds and divide by 2. Take your answer which is 75 lbs and change it to ounces, in this case 75 ounces. That is how many ounces of water you need a day. Your body performs mostly on water. If you make sure you get enough water everyday your body will perform at top notch and your body will no longer have the cravings of junk food. You will have a better performing body system to help you work out and feel better thru out your day.

____

Good Food

My favorite things to eat:

Avacado Wraps

Simple: Low Carb Tortilla, Half Avacdo sliced, alpha sprouts, lettuce, soy bacon…Just wrap it up and eat. You can vary the things you put inside so long as you keep it to approx 4 or 5 items. You want to make sure they are fresh, low calorie and filling. Avacado and mushrooms can replace meats in your meal and still have great taste.

Special K Cereals are fantastic. They have that sweetness that one craves and is so good for you. Calories are low. Great for even just dinner.

First thing in the morning…A Glass of Chocolate Milk. Yup!! Chocolate Milk. We all crave that "got to have" item in the morning. Milk is the best thing you can have for yourself while working out. The chocolate (and you can use Carnation Instant Milk for this but I simply use Nestle dry mix) will give you that sweet "snack" that you need. If you give your body a little bit of it and its in a control way, you will not crave sweets and junk the rest of the day.

Lean Cusines

Fantastic food! Each meal is approx 180 t0 380 calories per box. So think about your calories. 1,200…You can still have several of these meals a day and still be under your intake requirements.

Its all amout the numbers and watching what you take in and what you burn out. And you know what..if you go over your 1,200 mark for food intake…thats okay…you simple up your total calories burned for the day by what you took it. So long as you burn off the over all calories to be more than your food intake. Just make sure you stick too it so you can reach your weight loss goals.

Fruits and Veggies

All you want on the schedule listed below.
Banana's are my favorite. They are very filling and can make a meal all on their own.

____

Vitamins

My favorite is ONE A DAY WITH ENERGY…I am in love with this vitamin because I am just like everyone else who loves those quick fix energy drinks. But what people do not realise is that energy drinks can contain 120 to 440 calories in just ONE Can. If you think about it..That is HALF of your allowed calories for food intake. The best alternative I have found is One a day with energy vitamin. Easy to spot, it is packaged in a green label bottle. Just One vitamin a day will give you as much energy as approx. 1 1/2 cans of red bull…WITHOUT the calorie intake.
WoW..now your making progress already because you have made more room in your intake calories for actual healthy food.

_____

Soda/Carbination

Carbination is terrible for your system because it bloats your stomach. And when your stomach bloats, your jeans just don't fit. You can drop one pant size simply by NOT drinking any carbinated drinks all together..Take away the bloat and you have instantly just made it one pant size lower. Besides, Sodas dehydrate you and with that One a Day Vitamin, you won't need the Caffenie in the soda and it will also cut out those extra calories that you don't need.
So remove that soda and the energy drinks and just think how much calories you just instantly removed from your daily intake. I normally consume what…four sodas and two energy drinks in one day…that is a total of …. 900 calories..Of what??? Nothing…Those are horrible calories and calories that can be replaced by food which will fuel your body for your day and your workouts.

____

Your Body

Your body is like a computer. You must program your body to do what it is suppose to do so it won't crash and leave you with a virus. Your stomach is only the size of your fist. So think about it right now, Look at your hand and close your fist. Not very big is it. That is how much food you actually ONLY need to eat, each time you eat for every meal. If you eat anything more than that, you will stretch out your stomach which causes overeating and overweight.

What you need to do is eat every three hours, approx 5 to 7 times everyday around the same time. If you are always giving your body healthy and better food choices (the size of your fist) every three hours, your body will know you are giving it food. It will use that food properly. It will not go into starvation mode or store food away for later because it knows…it will get more in three hours. So what does your body do…it flushes everything out of your system because it doesn't need it.. I Now knows…you wont' forget about it and that food is on its way.

____

Walking Buddy

This is the best thing especially for woman. Get a walking buddy. One hour everyday. Just think about how much talking, venting and laughing two woman can do together while walking and yup, you guessed it…it just burns more calories and reduces your stress. You now are more relaxed because you can talk and free yourself of whatever is frustrating you while getting into shape.

What is a HEALTHY way to lose 15 pounds and keep it off?

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

I am trying to lose 15 pounds and keep it off. Can you guys give me some advice? And how long do you think it would take if it was done in a healthy way?

Thank you!

This past 8 months I lost over 40 pounds the old fashioned way. I took up exercising and ate healthy. It takes a lot of will power and determination, but I promise it works. At first I did some different exercises but my husband encouraged me to take up running. I’ve never been a runner, but thought it was a good idea. Of course at first it was more like a jog for a few minutes and then turned into walking! But with time I worked myself up to more of a run and I could do a mile, then two, then three. Running did wonders for me, but I eventually started spending time on weights and floor exercises (like crunches and push ups), and I also started using an elliptical machine. One thing that I started which really has been good for me is to keep track of the miles I run (I do this mostly on a treadmill, but you can also track your distance with Google Earth). It’s crazy to add up your miles at the end of the month and see how far you’ve gone. Then you have a goal for the next month, to do just a little more than you did the month before.
The second part of loosing my weight came with my eating. There is one thing for sure, I never ever went hungry! When you’re hungry, it’s totally okay to eat! But, you’ve got to eat the healthy stuff; I don’t let myself eat just anything. Probably the major thing that I did was take what I’d normally eat, cut it in half and fill the rest with fruits and veggies. So for example, if I would normally eat two tacos for dinner, instead I would eat one along with a salad or apple or something like that. I did this for every lunch/dinner meal. Then, my snacks just about always became a fruit of veggie, unless I decided to have a low fat yogurt or whole wheat crackers or something else that would be nutritious. Don’t get me wrong, I still found ways to indulge in junk food. I have a huge sweet tooth and so I had to learn how to control it. The problem with saying no to junk food is that it feels socially unacceptable. In my work environment I felt like such an outcast for not participating in eating junk food. But what I kept thinking was “I’ll be happier losing weight than eating that piece of cake.” After a while I learned that it was okay to indulge with my coworkers if it was really something I couldn’t resist, as long as it was a reasonable portion. I also started to plan ahead if I knew that there would be an opportunity to indulge, and then I would make sure I ate a little healthier that day, or fit in some extra workout time. I also started to tell myself I could indulge twice a week. Then when I was offered something on Thursday, I knew I didn’t want to eat it because I was already planning to bake something delicious on Saturday. You should eat some of your favorite junk foods sometimes, because if you don’t you might go crazy and overeat.
One thing to keep in mind is your ultimate goal and each day is an opportunity to get there. Every choice you make will take you one step closer or farther away. If you “mess up” it is not the end of the world, learning to change you eating habits will take some time. But I definitely promise that the hard work and dedication will be well worth the results! Hope this helps! Good Luck!

What is the best way to lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks but stay healthy?

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

I am joining the air force and I have to lose 15 pounds by the end of this month. I have been running 2 miles a night, jumping rope for 30 minutes a day and eating nothing but rasin bran and subway for a couple of weeks now and its just not going away please help

Get a good exercise in daily (may sure your getting a good sweat in! that way your burning "fat" and not just calories its a big difference.) Eat food low in calories such as fruit, vegetables, and baked chicken. Choose foods low in fat content also. Eating progresso soup @ night for dinner really helped me lose weight. I would eat a banana in the morning for breakfast, a sandwich (using whole wheat bread, turkey, and a little mayo) with a few sunchips on the side, and the progresso soup as mentioned for dinner. I honestly lost about 5 pounds in one week! Try not to eat past 7pm. Eliminate sodas, juice, tea, coffee, etc……ONLY DRINK WATER!!!!!

I saw that you mentioned eating subway. Although subway is a lot healthier than fast food restaurants, some of those sandwiches on the menu contain a lot carbs & calories. Keep track of how many calories you consume daily and during your workout make sure you burn off all the calories you consumed daily (most exercise equipment keep track of calories burned during the work out session).

This website is very helpful with weight loss goals. Just register and create a user name. This site helps you keep count of the calories you consumed daily and gives you the target exercises needed to achieve your goal, it also helps you select a diet according your weigh loss goals. Its a pretty cool site. Hope this helps good luck!

How can I lose 15 pounds in a month?

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

I really need good suggestions, Please don't say it's dangerous to lose 15 pounds….I have a threadmill but cannot run only walk fast at 3.5 any suggestions on diet and exercise?

I'd go low-carb. It's the easiest, I find, but that said, it's not healthy to go hard-core on ANY diet, and any diet that loses 15 lbs a month is going to make you feel like shit.

Stick with tons of lowfat protein like fish, shellfish, white chicken, etcetera, lots of leafy greens, a bit of fat (an avocado, or a tablespoon of oil a day). No sauces with sugar/glucose/etc, no bread, no rice, no potatoes/yams, no fruit but raspberries, no milk or yogurt, and nothing sweet. A little hard cheese or heavy cream is okay, but no soft cheese or milk. TONS OF WATER.

You could always cut your calories dangerously low, but that is horribly unhealthy and will probably just end up with you binging. Low carb, at least, will just make you feel a little nauseous.

Eat only when hungry and read your labels religiously. Exercise at anything you want, just make sure you get 20+ minutes of exercise.
